Travels in Southern Utah

travels in southern utah

I have been greatly remiss in posting to my blog. I apologize to both my followers. I know you have been awaiting new material. This post will surely disappoint you. I thought today to update you with one of two recent trips we made to southern Utah. This will be mostly pictures, very little commentary. I can hear the sighs of relief echoing back through time and space.

On our way to St. George, we turned east at Parowan and headed into the mountains past Brian Head ski resort to our first stop: Cedar Breaks National Monument.

It’s like a miniature Bryce Canyon except you cannot hike down into it. That is, I suppose you could hike into it if you didn’t mind committing several federal crimes and risking your life. At least that’s what TLM told me would happen if we  had followed my suggestion.

Since you cannot (or should not) descend into the valley, you explore Cedar Breaks by following paths along the rim.

We were at Cedar Breaks for a couple of hours wandering along the paths. it was, as you can see, gorgeous, although as with so many wonders of nature, pictures cannot do justice. Then, it was on to St. George.

No, that’s not a picture from this trip, but it’s a good one and that is St. George behind the Lovely Marianne. This was a short trip, so we didn’t have time for much sightseeing. We decided to visit one of our favorite places: Snow Canyon State Park.

TLM in the slot canyon at the park. I believe it is called Jenny’s Canyon. It’s really cool If you walk to the end and look up you will see what’s in the next picture.

That’s looking straight up. That boulder is ready to drop on my head. I’m glad I made it out alive.

You can see all kinds of cool intricate carvings. Sometimes you see surprises staring back at you.

SURPRISE!

Anyway, that was our first trip to southern Utah. It turns out we visited again in December to celebrate our anniversary. That post is coming up along with a long delayed post on our rafting trip down the Grand Canyon and I, Philistine Redux. There’s a lot to look forward to!
